Mumbai Lakes
Live 3D map of the seven lakes that supply Mumbai's water, on real terrain, updated daily from BMC's lake-level report.
What it is
A stylized 3D visualization of the city’s water supply: real elevation from AWS Terrain Tiles, district boundaries from geoBoundaries, and river courses and reservoirs from OpenStreetMap. Water levels, rainfall and three-year comparisons come from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) daily 6 AM report.
The hard part
BMC publishes the report only as an image. There’s no API. Every day the image is dropped into the repo, where an Action OCRs it and cross-checks every number before anything ships: lake totals against the printed total, percentages against storage ÷ capacity, levels against full and dead-storage limits, and duplicate dates. If validation fails, the site doesn’t change.
Supply network
The map follows BMC’s own documents: Upper → Middle Vaitarna → Modak Sagar by river, then mains from Modak Sagar, Tansa, Bhatsa, Tulsi and Vihar to the Bhandup complex, fanning out to the city’s distribution zones.
